The present invention relates to a method of saving energy for a wireless device in a telecommunication network. The method comprises: receiving at least a part of a data transmission with information of duration, address of destination and address of the transmitter of said transmission; determine the fulfillment of a set of conditions, which at least comprises determining, according to the destination address, that the transmission is not directed to the device; in case said conditions are met, determine if a sum of times exceeds a minimum shutdown time previously established according to hardware limitations of the device, where said sum of time comprises at least one counter set according to the duration information ; and in case the sum is greater than said minimum time, perform a micro-off of the device with a duration equal to the value of said sum of times. Reivindicaciones

1. Energy-saving method for a wireless device in a telecommunication network which complies with the IEEE 802.11 standard, characterised in that it comprises the following steps: a) receiving, in said wireless device, at least one part of a data transmission, wherein said part comprises information concerning the frame length contained in the physical-layer header, a "duration" field contained in the link-layer header, recipient address and transmitter address of said transmission; and without waiting for the reception of the rest of the data transmission to end, b) determining compliance with a first set of conditions which at least comprises determining, according to the recipient address, that the transmission is not addressed to the device; and determining, according to the transmitter address, that the transmission originates from the same network to which the device belongs; c) in the event that the first set of conditions is complied with, determining compliance with a second set of conditions which at least comprises determining that the network is in a contention period, based on determining that the network is not in a contention-free period demarcated by an initial beacon frame and another final beacon frame; determining that the data received is not a CTS "clear to send" frame; and determining if the value of the "duration" field is less than or equal to a maximum value of 32767 microseconds; d) determining whether a sum of times exceeds a minimum shutdown time previously established according to hardware limitations of the device, wherein said sum of time comprises at least: - in the event that the first set of conditions is complied with, the time of duration of the rest of the data transmission plus a previously established minimum interframe interval; and - in the event that the second set of conditions is complied with, the value of the "duration" field; and wherein the minimum shutdown time comprises: a minimum shutdown time the device takes to shut down after a shutdown instruction is sent thereto; a minimum startup time the device takes to start up after a startup instruction is sent thereto; and a minimum preparation time the device takes to be ready to transmit or receive data; and e) in the event that the sum is greater than said minimum time, performing a micro-shutdown of the device with a duration equal to the value of said sum of times. 2. Method according to claim 1, wherein the step of determining that the transmission is not addressed to the device comprises comparing a destination MAC address with a MAC address of the device, wherein the comparison is efficiently performed as bytes of the transmission are being received in the device, such that the first different byte leads to the end of the comparison. 3. Method according to any of the preceding claims, wherein the method further comprises, once the micro-shutdown has ended, waiting for at least one time interval equal to a minimum interval established to confirm that a channel is free, minus the established minimum interframe time interval, before receiving a new transmission. 4. Method according to any of the preceding claims, wherein the wireless device is a wireless card with a microcontroller configured for performing all the steps of the method. 5. Energy-saving wireless device in a telecommunication network which complies with the IEEE 802.11 standard, comprising a wireless card and a microcontroller configured for: receiving at least one part of a data transmission, wherein said part comprises information concerning the frame length contained in the physical-layer header, a "duration" field contained in the link-layer header, recipient address and transmitter address of said transmission; and without waiting for the reception of the rest of the data transmission to end; determining compliance with a first set of conditions which at least comprises determining, according to the recipient address, that the transmission is not addressed to the device; and determining, according to the transmitter address, that the transmission originates from the same network to which the device belongs; in the event that the first set of conditions is complied with, determining compliance with a second set of conditions which at least comprises determining that the network is in a contention period, based on determining that the network is not in a contention-free period, which is demarcated by an initial beacon frame and another final beacon frame; determining that the data received is not a CTS "clear to send" frame; and determining if the value of the "duration" field is less than or equal to a maximum value of 32767 microseconds; determining whether a sum of times exceeds a minimum shutdown time previously established according to hardware limitations of the device, wherein said sum of time comprises at least: in the event that the first set of conditions is complied with, the time of duration of the rest of the data transmission plus a previously established minimum interframe interval; and in the event that the second set of conditions is complied with, the value of the "duration" field; and wherein the minimum shutdown time comprises: a minimum shutdown time the device takes to shut down after a shutdown instruction is sent thereto; a minimum startup time the device takes to start up after a startup instruction is sent thereto; and a minimum preparation time the device takes to be ready to transmit or receive data; and in the event that the sum is greater than said minimum time, performing a micro-shutdown of the device with a duration equal to the value of said sum of times. 6. Computer program characterised in that it comprises program code means suitable for performing the steps of the method according to any of claims 1 to 4 when said program is run in a general purpose processor, a digital signal processor, an FPGA, an ASIC, a microprocessor, a microcontroller, or any other form of programmable hardware.
