Resumen

The present invention refers to an in vitro method for the diagnosis and/or prognosis of pituitary neuroendocrine tumours (PitNETs) in a subject. The invention is also focused on an in vitro method for monitoring the aggressiveness of PitNETs and for the differential diagnosis of non-functioning PitNET versus functioning PitNET.

Reivindicaciones

1. In vitro method for the diagnosis and/or prognosis of pituitary neuroendocrine tumours (PitNETs) in a subject, which comprises assessing the presence of primary cilia in cells from a biological sample obtained from the subject, wherein the identification of a frequency of ciliated cells higher than a pre-established frequency threshold value measured in control subjects, is an indication that the subject is suffering from PitNETs and/or that the subject has a poorer prognosis. 2. In vitro method for monitoring the aggressiveness of PitNETs which comprises assessing the presence of primary cilia in cells from a biological sample obtained from the subject, wherein the identification of a frequency of ciliated cells higher than a pre-established frequency threshold value measured in control subjects, is an indication that the disease is more aggressive. 3. In vitro method for the differential diagnosis of non-functioning PitNET versus functioning PitNET which comprises assessing the presence of primary cilia in cells from a biological sample obtained from the patient, wherein the identification of a frequency of ciliated cells higher than a pre-established frequency threshold value measured in control subjects, is an indication that the subject is probably suffering from a non-functioning PitNETs. 4. In vitro method, according to any of the claims 1 or 2, wherein the PitNET is a non-functioning PitNET. 5. In vitro method, according to any of the previous claims, wherein the identification ciliated cells is carried out by immunohistochemical or immunofluorescence methods or by electron microscopy. 6. In vitro method, according to any of the previous claims, wherein the identification ciliated cells is carried out by using an antibody against ADP ribosylation factor like GTPase 13B. 7. In vitro method, according to any of the previous claims, wherein the biological sample is biopsy obtained from the pituitary tumor. 8. In vitro use of primary cilia in cells from a biological sample obtained from the patient for the diagnosis and/or prognosis of PitNETs, for monitoring the aggressiveness of PitNETs, or for the differential diagnosis of non-functioning pituitary adenoma versus functioning pituitary adenoma. 9. In vitro use of a kit consisting of tools for the identification of primary cilia in cells from a biological sample obtained from the patient, for the diagnosis and/or prognosis of PitNETs, for monitoring the aggressiveness of PitNETs, or for the differential diagnosis of non-functioning pituitary adenoma versus functioning pituitary adenoma.
