IN VITRO METHOD FOR DETECTING RENAL DISEASECM Patents

[0001] The present invention refers to the in vitro use of TRAF3 protein level determined in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) isolated from blood samples obtained from the patient for detecting renal disease, for predicting the response of patients suffering from renal disease to a treatment with vitamin D analogues or derivatives, or for deciding or recommending whether to treat patients suffering from renal disease with vitamin D analogues or derivatives.

Reivindicaciones

1. In vitro method for determining the level of TRAF3 protein in a patient which comprises: a. Isolating peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) from blood samples obtained from the patient, and b. Determining the level of TRAF3 by using reagents able to detect TRAF3. 2. In vitro method for detecting renal disease which comprises: a. Determining at least TRAF3 protein level following the method of claim 1, b. Wherein if the level determined in step (a) is statistically lower than the level determined in healthy control subjects, this is an indication that the patient is suffering from renal disease. 3. In vitro method, according to claim 2, wherein the renal disease is clinically manifested as acute kidney injury (AKI) or chronic kidney disease (CKD), or the renal disease has progressed to end stage renal disease (ESRD). 4. In vitro method for deciding or recommending whether to treat patients suffering from renal disease with vitamin D analogues or derivatives which comprises: a. Determining at least TRAF3 protein level following the method of claim 1, b. Wherein if the level determined in step (a) is statistically lower than the level determined in healthy control subjects, a treatment with vitamin D analogues or derivatives is recommended. 5. In vitro method for predicting the response of patients suffering from renal disease to a treatment with vitamin D analogues or derivatives which comprises: a. Determining at least TRAF3 protein level following the method of claim 1 before the administration of the vitamin D analogue or derivative, b. Wherein if the level determined in step (a) is statistically lower than the expression level determined after the administration of the vitamin D analogue or derivative, this is an indication that the patient responds to the treatment. 6. In vitro method, according to any of the claims 4 or 5, wherein the renal disease is clinically manifested as acute kidney injury (AKI) or chronic kidney disease (CKD), or the renal disease has progressed to end stage renal disease (ESRD). 7. In vitro method, according to any of the claims 4 to 6, wherein the vitamin D analogue or derivative is selected from the group comprising: paricalcitol, calcitriol, calcidiol, alfacalcidol, tacalcitol, calcifediol, calcipotriol, maxacalcitol, doxercalciferol and/or falecalcitriol. 8. In vitro use of the TRAF3 protein level determined in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) isolated from blood samples obtained from the patient for detecting renal disease, for predicting the response of patients suffering from renal disease to a treatment with vitamin D analogues or derivatives, or for deciding or recommending whether to treat patients suffering from renal disease with vitamin D analogues or derivatives. 9. Kit suitable for measuring the level of TRAF3 in a patient which comprises: a. Tools for isolating peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) from blood samples obtained from the patient; and b. Reagents able to detect TRAF3. 10. In vitro use of the kit of claim 9 for detecting renal disease, for predicting the response of patients suffering from renal disease to a treatment with vitamin D analogues or derivatives or for deciding or recommending whether to treat patients suffering from renal disease with vitamin D analogues or derivatives. 11. Vitamin D analogue or derivative for use in the treatment of renal disease in a patient, wherein the patient is characterized by a TRAF3 protein level, determined by the method of claim 1, statistically lower as compared with the level determined in control healthy subjects. 12. Vitamin D analogue or derivative for use, according to claim 11, wherein the vitamin D analogue or derivative is selected from the list comprising: paricalcitol, calcitriol, calcidiol, alfacalcidol, tacalcitol, calcifediol, calcipotriol, maxacalcitol, doxercalciferol and/or falecalcitriol.
