The present invention relates to a method for identifying a compound or a mixture of compounds with immunomodulating effects on the skin, based on analysing the amount of the product of the expression of the PTPRE, ICOSL, Gal-1, Gal-3, SLA, SOCS1, THBS1 and GADD45A genes, and to a kit for performing said method. Said method is suitable for identifying whether or not a compound or a mixture of compounds has the effect of inducing immunological tolerance and is therefore useful for treating inflammatory skin diseases. Likewise, said method is suitable for identifying whether or not a compound or a mixture of compounds has a photoprotective effect against UV rays on the skin and is therefore useful for preventing skin cancer.
