1. 46 CLAIMS 1. A live attenuated African swine fever virus (ASFV) characterized in that it comprises a modified form of the genome of the ASFV Lv17/WB/Rie1 strain in which the EP153R gene, the EP402R gene, the I7L gene, the I8L gene, the I9R gene, the I10L gene and the I11L gene have been inactivated. 2. The attenuated ASFV according to claim 1 , wherein inactivation of the I7L, the I8L, the I9R, the HOL, and the I11L genes results from a single deletion in the genome of the ASFV Lv17/WB/Rie1 strain. 3. The attenuated ASFV according to claim 2, wherein inactivation of the I7L gene, the I8L gene, the I9R gene, the HOL gene, and the I11L gene results from a deletion from position 181685 to position 184032 of the genome of the ASFV Lv17/WB/Rie1 strain according to SEQ ID NO:1. 4. The attenuated ASFV according to any preceding claim wherein the region containing the EP153R gene and the EP402R gene and/or the region containing the I7L gene, the I8L gene, the I9R gene, the HOL gene and the I11L gene is/are replaced by at least one heterologous gene. 5. The attenuated ASFV according to any preceding claim, wherein the attenuated ASFV contains at least one heterologous gene or genes and wherein said at least one heterologous gene or genes is/are under the control of a promoter of an ASFV gene. 6. The attenuated ASFV according to claim 5 wherein the promoter is the promoter of the p72 gene. 7. The attenuated ASFV according to any of claims 1 to 6 wherein the genome of the recombinant ASFV comprises the sequence of SEQ ID NO: 3. 8. An immunogenic composition or a vaccine composition comprising the attenuated ASFV according to any of claims 1 to 7 and a pharmaceutically suitable carrier or excipient. 9. The immunogenic composition according to claim 8 wherein the immunogenic composition is formulated to be administered intranasally, orally, subcutaneously, intradermal or intramuscularly, preferably intramuscularly. 10. A recombinant ASFV according to any claim 1 to 7 for use in the prevention or treatment of a disease caused by the infection by ASFV.47 11. The recombinant ASFV for use according to claim 10 wherein the recombinant ASFV is administered in a single dose. 12. The recombinant ASFV for use according to any of claims 10 and Hwherein the effective dose is between about 10<2>median tissue culture infectious dose (TCID50) to about 10<4>TCI D<50>. 13. The recombinant ASFV for use according to any of claims 10 to 12 wherein the preferred effective dose is at least 10<3>TCID50. 14. The recombinant ASFV for use according to any of claims 10 to 13 wherein the recombinant ASFV is administrated intranasally, orally, subcutaneously, intradermal or intramuscularly.
