Robust acoustic automatic real time tachometer with maximum universal resolution for explosion engines.This invention refers to a system or device (1) for the real-time distance measurement, with the maximum resolution that is physically possible, of the rotation speed of the crank shaft of any type of explosion engine, either an Otto type engine or Diesel type engine, characterised in that it captures, using a microphone, and analyses in real time the sound or noise transmitted by the engine. The measurement can be performed without the need for severe controls in the measuring position, or in background noise, because the actual system is robust with respect to sound interferences and changes in sound pressure levels. In addition, once the response time of the system has been selected, the resolution of the measurement is the maximum possible.This invention is, especially although not exclusively, applicable to various procedures and tests in the Technical Inspection of Vehicles.The figure shows an example of a vehicle (2) inspected not included in the invention.<IMAGE>
