Method and system for estimating the position granted by an information retriever to a resource (150) with respect to resources from the competition (120). The information retriever estimates the position of the resources using values of characteristics of said resources by means of a ranking algorithm. The method comprises the step of creating (140) a model which emulates the ranking algorithm of the information retriever. The model is created from the values of at least one of the characteristics of the resources from the competition and the positions previously granted by the information retriever to the resources from the competition. The model is used (150) to estimate the position of the resource to be positioned with respect to the resources from the competition.
