Installation for increasing the critical area of a gaseous flow supplied in a conduit (8), comprising a pressurized reservoir (1), for gas supply, a pressure regulator (2) for controlling the discharge pressure of the reservoir (1)) and a test section (14) downstream, incorporating, at the entrance to the test section (14), a porous filter (5) fixed to the duct (8) in a watertight manner and made of a material to be selected from metallic , ceramic and composite. The method consists in the incorporation to the installation in front of the test section (14) and after the regulating valve (2) of a dissipative element that decreases the total pressure and, simultaneously, maintains or increases the total temperature.
