1. 43 CLAIMS 1. A live attenuated African swine fever virus (ASFV) characterized in that it comprises a modified form of the genome of the ASFV Lv17/WB/Rie1s strain, in which the EP153R gene, the EP402R gene, the MGF 360-4L gene, the MGF 360-6L gene, the X69R gene, the MGF 300-1 L gene, the MGF 300-2R gene and the MGF 300-4L genes have been inactivated. 2. The attenuated ASFV according to claim 1 wherein the inactivation of the MGF 360- 4L gene, the MGF 360-6L gene, the X69R gene, the MGF 300-1 L gene, the MGF 300-2R gene and the MGF 300-4L gene results from a single deletion in the genome of the ASFV Lv17/WB/Rie1 strain. 3. The attenuated ASFV according to claim 2 wherein the inactivation of the MGF 360- 4L gene, the MGF 360-6L gene, the X69R gene, the MGF 300-1 L gene, the MGF 300-2R gene and the MGF 300-4L gene results from a deletion from position 16251 to position 23790 of the genome of the ASFV Lv17/WB/Rie1 strain according to SEQ ID NO: 1. 4. The attenuated ASFV according to any preceding claim wherein the region containing the EP153R gene and the EP402R gene and/or the region containing the MGF 360-4L gene, the MGF 360-6L gene, the X69R gene, the MGF 300-1 L gene, the MGF 300-2R gene and the MGF 300-4L gene is/are replaced by at least one heterologous gene. 5. The attenuated ASFV according to any preceding claim wherein the attenuated ASFV contains at least one heterologous gene or genes and wherein said at least one heterologous gene or genes is/are under the control of a promoter of an ASFV gene. 6. The attenuated ASFV according to claim 5 wherein the promoter is the promoter of the p72 gene. 7. The attenuated ASFV according to any of claims 1 to 6 wherein the genome of the recombinant ASFV comprises the sequence of SEQ ID NO: 3. 8. An immunogenic composition or a vaccine composition comprising the attenuated ASFV according to any of claims 1 to 7 and a pharmaceutically suitable carrier or excipient. 9. The immunogenic composition according to claim 8 wherein the immunogenic composition is formulated to be administered intranasally, orally, subcutaneously, intradermal or intramuscularly, preferably intramuscularly.44 10. A recombinant ASFV according to any claim 1 to 7 for use in the prevention or treatment of a disease caused by the infection by ASFV. 11. The recombinant ASFV for use according to claim 10 wherein the recombinant ASFV is administered as a first and second dose in a prime and boost regime. 12. The recombinant ASFV for use according to claim 11 wherein the first and second dose are separated by about 25 days to 35 days. 13. The recombinant ASFV for use according to claim 11 or 12 wherein the first and second dose are separated by 28 days. 14. The recombinant ASFV for use according to any of claims 11 to 13 wherein the effective first or second dose is of between about 10<2>median tissue culture infectious dose (TCID50) to about 10<5>TCID50. 15. The recombinant ASFV for use according to any of claims 11 to 14 wherein the preferred first or second effective dose is at least 10<4>TCID50. 16. The recombinant ASFV for use according to claim 10 wherein the recombinant ASFV is administered in a single dose. 17. The recombinant ASFV for use according to claim 16 wherein the preferred effective dose is 10<5>TCID50 18. The recombinant ASFV for use according to any of claims 10 to 17 wherein the recombinant ASFV is administrated intranasally, orally, subcutaneously, intradermal or intramuscularly.
