The invention relates to a method for detecting a defect in a railway axle during a fatigue test. The method comprises the steps of: acquiring, by means of a sensor, a vibratory signal of the railway axle; measuring, in a processor, the energy of the vibratory signal acquired in a certain frequency band; comparing, in the processor, the energy measured with a previously established energy threshold; determining the detection of a fault in the axle in the event that the measured energy exceeds the pre-established energy threshold; and stopping the fatigue test according to the detection of a defect.
