Process for obtaining images and spectra of the extracellular ph by magnetic resonance with extrinsinc indicators containing 1h or 19fCM Patents

[0001] The conceptual approach consists in acquiring an MR image or spectrum for any pH-sensitive MR property of molecules non-permeable to the membrane. The chemical shift of a nucleus localized in, or in close proximity to, an ionizable group of a non-permeable molecule, is normally used as a "pH informative resonance" in the extracellular space. Several MR methods (CSIC - Chemical shift selective imaging, or SI - spectroscopic image) can be used to determine the spatial distribution of the "informative resonance", and thereby the extracellular pH distribution within the sample. This information is most useful in clinical conditions such as muscular dystrophy, isquemia, tumoral transformation and metastasis, among others.

Reivindicaciones

1. Procedures for obtaining extracellular pH images and spectra by Magnetic Resonance using extrinsic indicators containing 1H or 19F . 2. Procedures, according to claim 1, characterized by its use in physiopathology of micro-organisms, subcellular organelles, isolated or cultured cells, perfused organs, intact animals and human beings. 3. Procedures, according to claims 1 and 2, pertaining to the use of the series of compounds 1-9, depicted in diagram 1, as extrinsic indicators in <1>H MRS, <1>H MRI or any combination of these methods; or <19>FMRS and <19>FMRI if <19>F is included as extrinsic indicator. 4. Procedures, according to claims 1, 2 and 3, characterized by their application for clinical diagnostic in muscular dystrophies, isquemic pathologies and to evaluate the response to different therapies in tumoral transformation whether benign or malignant, metastasis and evaluation of tumoral responses to therapies, exercise and sport physiology and medicine, and by extension in any other physiological, pathological or therapeutical situation involving modifications of intra and extracellular pH. 5. Procedures, according to claims 1, 2, 3 and 4, adapted for intracellular pH measurements and intracellular pH imaging, using any of the indicators from diagram 1 modified to remain trapped in the intracellular space.
